Numerous customers are switching towards laptops because of better price propositions and the inherent benefits of mobility products.

Technology overseer Gartner Inc. is of the opinion that Indian mobile laptop market is showing an annual growth rate of 70 percent, and the same trend is likely to continue as well, even though sales of desktop computer will likely hit a plateau.

If experts are to be believed, multinational brands should continue to dominate laptop shipments but the best part about all this is that market is still same for domestic brands selling desk-based PCs.

More often, Q1 remained superb for Indian market, with big government buying. Though, the quarter also witnessed big enterprises increase investments in the purchases of PCs, albeit in laptops (mobile PCs).

Furthermore, factors like affordability, increase in the demand of mobile computing in a rapidly growing economy, wireless telephony’s growth in India, and most importantly adoption of the technologies like wireless, are few of the pivotal reasons behind the increase in the sales of laptops. Apart from that, undergraduate students and young professionals are opting for laptop as their first computer purchase in the country.

Arguably, increasing consumer awareness in addition to the availability of wireless hotspots in educational institutions, offices and hotels, has also created quite a buzz for laptops in India.

According to a study, adoption of broadband, wireless and gaming are likely to drive demand for mobility products. What’s more, the Indian Government is working overtime to halve excise duty on hardware that will likely bring in taxation level on par with China. If this is implemented, PC and laptop costs will come down further increasing consumption even more.

As per a research analyst at RNCOS, “Recently, owning a mobile PC (laptop) used to be a privilege that IT professionals and hotshot executives enjoyed. Though, in the last year, the notebook market showed more than double growth in country spurred by demand from various consumer segments, mainly the youth.
