Tuesday, 09 October 2007

Australian mobile phone industry is booming and creating a positive impact on the other industries of the country apart from paving the path for the fledging wireless industry.

In news published on Smh, a joint report from Access Economics and the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association has identified the burgeoning mobile communications industry as the main catalyst for Australia's flourishing economy.

The study found transformation in business operations and employees' work in every Australian mainland industry and sector, which was enabled by the ubiquitous mobiles. The implication is that the mobile telecommunications industry has cast an economic impact over other industries as well

In the fiscal 2005-06, Australia's mobile phone subscribers had increased to 20 Million from 7 Million in 1998-99. The mobile industry directly pumped in around $6 Billion to the national economy in 2005-06. Combining indirect and direct contribution of almost $12.5 Billion, the mobile industry made an estimated GDP of around $6.66 Billion

Recently, a research from the Australian National University, the University of New England and the University of New South Wales deemed that mobile phones are indispensable for Australians citing that 90% Australians are unable to imagine normal life without their mobile phones. The boom in the market is primarily due to Australians' need combined with the mobile phones' popularity. Australians consider mobile phones are great help in balancing professional and family lives.

The fierce-competitive nature of the mobile phone companies in Australia is also fuelling the growth of mobile industry. Thanks to the contesting companies, which make cheap handsets and reasonable mobile SIMS available in the mobile market, phones are becoming affordable for every class of the society.

Apart from the businesses that are switching to mobiles for their business needs, Australia's young generation is also playing a pivotal role in the industry growth. Mobile companies are introducing new and affordable schemes to especially catch the fancy of young generation.

Expressing his views on the Australian mobile market, a market research from RNCOS said, "The mobile sector's growth is not just benefitting the Australian economy as a whole but is also proving detrimental in spreading its wireless industry. Being extremely tech-savvy, Australians also easily embrace new technologies like video calling, MP3 mucic players, cameras and GPS, further fuelling the boom in its mobile sector".
