Escalating competition in the UK telecom industry is leading to access of telecom services at lesser rates as compared to other prominent countries of the Europe.
In a recent survey published by Ofcom, the Media and Telecom Regulator of the UK, it was found that UK families have access to telephone, broadband connection and television at one of the lowest prices in Europe and increasing number of households are opting for these services as bundle, as per the news published by Financial times .
In 2006, Britain provided the finest “Triple Play” deal including fixed-line telephone, broadband connection and pay-TV. The “Triple Play” deal was the cheapest among the top countries in Europe. As per the deal, a family with two children could take Virgin Media’s package consisting of fixed-line phone, broadband, and cable TV at £25 per month. The same package in France is available at £27.22 per month, in Italy at £34.94, and in Germany at £39.77.
The telecom industry in the UK is passing through a transition phase giving rise to intense competition between fixed voices and broadband services.
Analysts think that the rapidly expanding mobile industry in the UK is also responsible for the growth of the telecom industry as a whole. The mobile penetration in the country has reached 115 connections per 100 people. This scenario is attracting foreign players to exploit the UK telecom market. Consequently, the competition between domestic players and foreign player has increased.
Heating competition has forced existing as well as new players in this industry to come up with strategically made plans to hold the existing customers and to attract new customers. To attract customers, these players are providing their services in bundles which are working as cumulative force.
The positive impact of better telecom services in the UK could be seen on diverse advertising industry who are now giving substantial importance to online advertisements, as they believe that it is the most economical and effective medium to target audience and easy to get feedback.
A Senior Research analyst at RNCOS said, “UK’s telecom industry is experiencing a slow growth. However, the IT and telecom companies collectively trying to bring pace in the growth of the industry and Modest improvement in the ICT sector brings some good news for consumers as well as ICT players. On the part of the government, several deals are being made to keep the consumers’ interest firm.”
